Note: Estimation is the actual number of hours required for a task to be completed.
With this option, GanttPRO will automatically calculate task duration based on your estimation values. To enable it, open Project settings and select Fixed estimation.
In that case, once you introduce time estimations for your tasks, the duration will be calculated automatically based on fixed estimations.
How does it work?
1 Suppose a task estimation is 16 hours. Therefore, when you assign it to a person with an 8-hour working day, the task duration will be set to 2 days. Following the same logic, a task estimation of 24 hours will be displayed with a 3-day duration.
2 However, it changes if more than one person is assigned to a task. So, for example, if the task estimation is 32 hours, but you assign two people with an 8-hour working day on it, its duration will be set at 2 days, and not 4, as the work will be divided between these two assignees.
It may be the case that assignees have different personal calendars. e.g. vacations, leave, or just different working schedules. GanttPRO makes provision for that as well.
If you want to consider personal schedules in duration calculations, enable Fixed estimation 3 in Workload calculations and Resource calendar 4 in Project settings of the online project schedule maker.
In that case, if you have a project member who works part-time, e.g. 4 hours per day, and you assign a task with a 16-hours estimation to such a member, the duration will be set at 4 days.
Also, if an assignee has days off, they will automatically be included in the calculation of task duration.
Note that duration and estimation are interrelated. Therefore, every time you manually change one of these parameters, the other one will be automatically readjusted.
