Whereas, account roles are linked to global permissions within the account, project rights are configured for actions that users can execute in particular projects.
GanttPRO users can be granted the following rights:
- Project Owner
- Project Admin
- Project Editor
- Advanced Member
- Limited Member (available for Business and Enterprise plans users)
- Commentator (available for Business and Enterprise plans users)
- Custom rights (available for Enterprise plan users only)
You can check your rights in a project in the top-right corner of the app. Hover over it to see what exactly you can do in the given project.
Project Owner
Each project has one Project Owner. By default, this is a person that has created a project.
You can change a Project Owner anytime. To do that:
1 Open the People tab in a project.
2 Click on Change Project Owner near the name of the current one.
In the emerging window, enter the name or email address of the corresponding person. Click Ok. The previous Project Owner will automatically become a Project Admin.
Note that a user with a Member role cannot be assigned as a Project Owner. To become a Project Owner a user must have the right to create a project.
Project Owner has the widest scope of rights in the project. S/he can:
- See all tasks
- Create tasks and milestones
- Add existing custom fields
- Edit all standard fields
- Edit custom fields
- Leave comments on tasks
- Set costs to project members and view fields with the calculation of planned and actual cost on tasks
- Use any project view (Gantt chart, Board, List, Workload)
- View project history and restore events
- Configure all project settings
- Invite users and virtual resources to a project
- Change users’ rights within a project
- Change project status
Project Admin
A Project Admin has the same rights in the project as a Project Owner. S/he can:
- See all tasks
- Create tasks and milestones
- Add existing custom fields
- Edit all standard fields
- Edit custom fields
- Leave comments on tasks
- Set costs to project members and view fields with the calculation of planned and actual cost on tasks
- Use any project view (Gantt chart, Board, List, Workload)
- View project history and restore events
- Configure all project settings
- Invite users and virtual resources to a project
- Change users’ rights within a project
- Change project status
Note that a person can be an Admin in a project, but have a Member role in the account. This means that despite the rights mentioned above, s/he can have certain limitations due to the role. For example, a Project Admin with a Member role cannot archive or delete a project, save it as a template or share it with a private link.
Project Members
There are 3 types of member rights.
Project Editors are allowed to fully work on a project and make edits. In particular, they can:
- View all tasks
- Add tasks and milestones
- Add and edit Standard fields
- Add existing Custom fields and edit them
- Leave comments
- See the History of changes
- Work with all the views
- Change Project status
Advanced Members have fewer possibilities than Project editors. In particular, they can:
- View all tasks
- Edit certain Standard fields: status, progress, time log and attachments
- Edit data in Custom fields
- Leave comments
- Work with Gantt chart, Board and List views.
Limited Members have the least amount of rights in a project. They don't see all the tasks in a project. They can only view and work with those tasks that are assigned to them. In particular, their possibilities are limited to:
- See standard fields
- Edit certain Standard fields: status, progress, time log and attachments
- Leave comments
This project right is a useful option for managers that want to invite team members to a project with limited access to it and hide the rest of the tasks.
Note that none of the 3 types of member rights enables users to see and work with Cost and Actual cost fields.
Commentator
This right can be assigned to let a user check the project and comment on its tasks, without actually being an active participant in the project.
Users with this access right can see the project, the team’s workload, and all the Standard fields except for Cost and Actual cost; work with different views and attachments.
This right also allows leaving and viewing comments.
Custom rights
Enterprise plan users may create Custom rights and combine Project Owner, Project Admin and Project member permissions. This option allows tailoring project rights to a specific need of the company.
Check here how to create Custom rights.
Below, you can find a table with all the Project rights and their corresponding permissions.
