In GanttPRO, you can work with different types of tasks and create a robust work breakdown structure (WBS) with up to 16 levels. This is particularly useful for breaking down complex projects into manageable parts and setting a hierarchical structure to simplify project planning, tracking, and reporting.
Task types and visualization
There are 4 types of tasks. Summary tasks are displayed as a line 1 reflecting the start date of the earliest task in the group and the finish of the latest one.
Tasks 2 and subtasks 3 are represented as bars on the Gantt chart. Milestones are displayed as a diamond sign 4.
- A summary task is a higher-level task that consolidates a group of related subtasks.
-
A task is a specific unit of work that needs to be completed within a project.
-
A subtask is a smaller, more detailed unit of work that is part of a group and(or) headed by a summary task.
-
A milestone is a task with zero duration that marks a significant point or key event in a project life cycle.
Task levels in a work breakdown structure (WBS)
You can also break tasks down into up to 16 levels. Each time you create a subtask, it goes one level lower and the previous task automatically becomes a summary task.
This hierarchy is visually reflected in the WBS numeration, providing a clear and organized view of your project's structure.
